About Olivia Mayoros
Olivia Marie-Bratton Mayoros is an artist-mother living and working in Scotland. She has a background in art history with a BA in medieval studies from Notre Dame University and an MA in the History of Photography from the University of St Andrews. Photography was her first introduction to Scottish light and landscape. Soon she started exploring these elements with her drawing and painting skills from the Sacred Arts School in Florence and an apprenticeship with Michelle Arnold Paine. Her two pronged approach usually finds her sketching out human figures in black and white or diving more deeply into color with populated landscapes. Her current work is squeezed in alongside a more immersive creative project: making humans. She finds great joy in hiking the hills and beaches of Scotland with her family, watching the wind and light grow myths in a landscape that later become the foundations of her paintings.
ARTIST STATEMENT
'Little Things Grow' is a collection of paintings and drawings exploring the theme of building wonder into our children. They consider how both daily tasks and grand adventures create a landscape of wonder in the hearts of our children and ourselves. They are distinctly “little” in size, most no bigger than a postcard. As a artist mother, taking things in small bites is what makes anything possible. The size acts as an encouragement to other parents in the thick of raising little humans that the little things they are doing and making and saying, are enough. It also allows the artwork to be priced accessibly so every household can have a reminder that the work they do matters and monotony is laden with beauty. The subject matter echoes this, letting the little moments grow in the imagination to something colossal.
